It provided great diving capabilities, and a superior level of performance for its pilots. The F-4U had a long production life span, and in 1952 the last F-4U was built, bringing the total to 7,800 planes With a Pratt & Whitney 2,000 hp engine, the plane flew at a max speed of 417 mph. It carried either six 50 caliber machine guns or four 20-mm cannons, plus a pair of 2000-lb bombs and six rockets. (C Series-Blue Box) |
